Snow in Srinagar
The averages count rain and snow together, so they can’t tell you how many snowy days to expect. Recent winters show how much the timing moves:
- 27 Dec 2024Srinagar had its first snowfall of the 2024–25 season, and six flights were cancelled for poor visibility, ETV Bharat reported.
- 9 Jan 2026In a very dry winter, “the plains of the Valley are yet to witness this season’s first snowfall”, IANS reported in Greater Kashmir. Srinagar had just recorded −6.0°C, its coldest night of that season so far.
- 14 Jan 2026Parts of Dal Lake froze, Kashmir Reader reported, after a night of −5.2°C.
- 23 Jan 2026“Srinagar, Banihal, and Qazigund received the heaviest snowfall of the season so far”, and all flights to and from Srinagar were cancelled for the day, according to Skymet.
- 27 Jan 2026More snow: 58 flights at Srinagar airport were cancelled, Kashmir Life reported.
That winter was unusually dry. Srinagar recorded 84.2 mm from December 2025 to February 2026, against a district normal of 236.5 mm, according to Meteorological Centre Srinagar figures reported by ETV Bharat. (The station averages in the table above add up to 175.8 mm for those three months; the district normal is a different measure.) If you’re travelling for snow, keep your dates flexible and read Kashmir in winter.
