What to see in Kokernag
The spring
The spring “bubbles at seven places on foothill” and is also known as Papashudan Nag, “the sin-cleansing spring”, according to the government’s film-location portal, India Cine Hub. The tourism corporation, JKTDC, describes it as “a collection of many small springs” whose shape resembles the claws of a koker, or cock; India Cine Hub says the place owes its name to this.
The gardens
The district site describes a terraced garden and a botanical garden, and says the garden was developed “during the rule of Bakhshi Ghulam Mohammad”. The spring’s streams run through the garden, according to Kashmir Life, which adds that it was about 8,000 square metres until 1969, when it was expanded to over 26,000 square metres. The Floriculture Department maintains it, according to India Cine Hub.
